Design Teams

Operating under the umbrella of the University of Florida AIAA are three smaller club organizations.

Design, Build, Fly!

The DBF team provides real-world aircraft design experience for engineering students by giving them the opportunity to validate their analytic studies.

Student teams will design, fabricate, and demonstrate the flight capabilities of an unmanned, electric powered, radio controlled aircraft which can best meet the specified mission profile. The goal is a balanced design possessing good demonstrated flight handling qualities and practical and affordable manufacturing requirements while providing a high vehicle performance.

To encourage innovation and maintain a fresh design challenge for each new years participants, the design requirements and performance objective will be updated each year. The changes will provide new design requirements and opportunities, while allowing for application of technology developed by the teams from prior years.

Hybrid Rocket Team

The Hybrid Rocket Team at the University of Florida is open to all majors and undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students alike. The team formed in the fall of 2007 strives to further research on hybrid rockets while competing and collaborating with other universities in the state.

Small Satellite Design Club

The UF Small Satellite Design Club (SSDC) is a student led organization dedicated to the design, fabrication, testing, and flight of small satellite technology. The inagural satellite was an on-orbit demonstration of a compact three-axis attitude controller for rapid retargeting and precision pointing (R2P2).

Our aim is to obtain hands-on experience, as well as develop an experience base among undergraduate and graduate engineering students here at the University of Florida. We seek valuable relationships with other universities, government agencies, and industry related to this SmallSat effort. We currently have some exciting projects underway which provide opportunities for exposing students to the satellite community. We encourage students and enthusiasts of all disciplines and years to participate in the design, fabrication, testing & evaluation, and implementation of small satellite technology.
