Gatorloop team advances to Hyperloop finals

SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk challenged engineering students across the nation to design a new concept for high-speed transportation and a team of UF engineers answered with Gatorloop.  After a successful first round competition that featured over 120 teams, the Gatorloop team is now advancing to the finals.

The Gatorloop team traveled to Texas in January to present their design and is now one of only 29 college teams selected to build a prototype for the final competition to be held this summer.  MAE student Taylor Waber is the captain of Gatorloop.  “When they said our name, it was so surreal,” said Taylor Waber, “There were so many great designs presented, we really weren’t sure that we’d make the cut.”

UF’s Gatorloop team has students from 6 different engineering majors within the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, with a majority belonging to MAE.  Gatorloop was one of only two university teams that used a pod designed based on wheels rather than magnetic levitation or other more complicated designs.
