Drop Policy - PLEASE READ!
TO: All MAE Undergraduate Students:
SUBJECT: Drop and Withdrawal Policy
Students must initiate a request to drop a course and/or withdrawal from all courses online at https://student.ufl.edu/ (which is after the initial drop/add period). A grade of “W” will appear on your transcript, (which is NOT a failing grade) and you will be liable for the course fees. Once the request has been initiated you will receive a request receipt that indicates “Your request to drop the following course(s) has been delivered to the appropriate office for review. To check the results go to the Status Page for details.”
Note: The MAE department does not receive any notifications on who’s dropping a course(s) so we have to manually check the system. Please allow at least a week for processing.
Please read the entire email below!
1. University of Florida
Students are allowed two drops in their first 60 hours of UF course work at UF [this does not include AP/IB or dual enrollment courses] - *(unused drops do not carry over from the freshmen/sophomore years to the junior/senior years). Students will receive two additional drops after 60 or more hours completed at UF. Note: Students transferring to UF with an A.A. degree from a Florida public community college or with 60 or more transfer credits earned from another college or university will ONLY receive two drops. Deadline to drop a course and/or withdrawal from all courses is Friday, April 7, 2017 by 11:59pm.
- Drop - Means to drop one or two courses at a time (not all). Again, if you wish to submit a request, go to https://student.ufl.edu/
- Withdrawal - Means to drop all courses for the term which is also initiated at https://student.ufl.edu/. Withdrawals are NOT handled by our department. Please read the withdrawal instructions before submitting your request at http://www.registrar.ufl.edu/services/withdrawals.html
2. Extra Drop - College of Engineering Students ONLY
Each Fall and Spring semester the College of Engineering allows an extra drop. The deadline for the extra drop is Friday, February 24th, by 5:00pm. For students who are registered for the Spring 2017 semester with an initial course load of 15 credits or more will be permitted an extra drop if the drop is completed by the end of the seventh week of classes and total credits remaining are 12 or more. There are no exceptions to this rule. If you are granted an extra drop and wish to make additional drops after this deadline, it will be counted towards your 2 drops allotted.
3. Petition to Drop - (For students who do not have any drops available)
Petition to drop course(s) beyond the allotted number may be granted approval ONLY when circumstances are beyond the student’s control that prevented the satisfactory completion of a course. All such petitions must be submitted to the Undergraduate Coordinator in MAE-A Bldg, Room 218 along with a written statement, (during his office hours which is Monday thru Thursday from 1:00pm – 2:00pm). Waiting until the deadline date may prevent your request from being reviewed and processed, because either the Undergraduate Coordinator and/or the College of Engineering Dean’s Office may not be available to process your request. Therefore, we STRONGLY suggest that you meet with the Undergraduate Coordinator ASAP! Petitions are located in MAE-A Bldg, Room 219B.
4. Tracking Hold
*Please remember that you must maintain an average GPA of 2.50 at all times for the critical tracking courses. If not, this will also result in placing a hold on your record.
