The domains aero.ufl.edu and me.ufl.edu have been retired!!Even though these domain names have been retired, they will continue to work until August 1st, 2003,so that you have some time to notify people you correspond with and inform them of your new email address and that the domain names of aero.ufl.edu and me.ufl.edu will no longer be valid. So what exactly does this mean and how will it effect me? If you use an email address that ends with either aero.ufl.edu or me.ufl.edu, they will not be valid email addresses on August 1st, 2003. The sender of the email to these addresses will get an error stating that the email address is not valid and the email will not be delivered to you. How can you avoid problems associated with the change of the domain name? This is actually very simple. Most email programs have a space where you can enter your "Reply to" email address. Make sure that you enter the email address that you want people to use when sending you email. DO NOT USE either of the above domain names!! NOTICE: If you are forwarding your Gatorlink email to an email address that contains aero.ufl.edu or me.ufl.edu, you must change this to mae.ufl.edu. Example: maeuser@aero.ufl.edu should now be maeuser@mae.ufl.edu Web LinksAny links you have on your webpage that refer to aero.ufl.edu or me.ufl.edu will have to be changed to the appropriate web server address. Beginning August 1st, 2003, anyone trying to access a webpage with this information will get a "Page not found" error. Computer NamesAll computers in the MAE Department should be changed so that the domain name
is mae.ufl.edu and not one of the other 2 old domain names. As a
stand-alone computer, this is not a critical problem. If the computer uses
shared resources, this may be a problem if it is not updated to mae.ufl.edu.
You should update all system related files that contain computer names such as
the host file, the DNS resolve file, etc. |
