These are just a few things to remember when you create your course Webpages.
- Graphics can be very large in size and therefore cause some people a lot
of problems. This includes scanned homework or test solutions.
Keep in mind that large images can take 10 to 20 minutes to load if a person
is using a dial-up modem to connect to the Internet.
- Large graphics can also use up a lot of disk space. You DO NOT have
an unlimited amount of disk space to use for your course website. If
you run out of space, you will not be able to post any further information
until you free up some space.
- It's a good idea to password protect information like solutions and
grades. If you would like this added to your webpage, please let us
know.
- We have a standard for creating usernames for course webpages. Here
is the pattern we use.
egm2511ta - This is the username
for the person who creates and maintains the webpage.
egm2511 - This is the username
for the students if the webpage has password protected information.
Passwords for these accounts will be disabled at the end of the
semester. New passwords will be generated for the TA's each semester.
- The URL for you course webpage will always follow a specific
pattern. This is done in an attempt to standardize the way course
webpages are posted. Here is the pattern and an example.
Pattern -
http://www.mae.ufl.edu/courses/<Semester>/<Course Number>
Semester will
always be something like summer2003, spring2003,
fall2003
Course Number will be like egm2511, egm3520, egm3401, eml3100
With this in mind, the URL for EGM2511 taught during the Summer 2003
semester would be:
Example http://www.mae.ufl.edu/courses/summer2003/egm2511
NEVER use real names or UFID numbers when posting
grades. Never post a Social Security number on any webpage. If
you want to post grades on your webpage, you should use a unique, randomly
generated number for each student. Also, only you and the student
should know this number. Never share this number with anyone. If
the student wants other people to know their number and their grades, the
student should be the person the share that information.
